Xero 2km and Paddle Boarding HB 3.5km SUP
Competitors need to be reasonably experienced, having trained either on the course or in an open water environment. A compulsory SUP board and equipment safety check at 8.30am will be followed by a race briefing at 8.45am.
All SUP competitors will line up at the water’s edge with their paddles and boards for the start of the race.
The Xero 2km competitors will paddle directly towards the first marker, turning right towards the 750m marker, turn right around the 750m marker, back to the initial marker, turning left and back into shore.
The Paddle Boarding HB 3.5km competitors will also paddle directly towards the first marker, turning right towards the 750m marker, turn right around the 750m marker, back to the initial marker and then complete the loop again before turning left at the initial marker and back into shore.
At the end of the course, competitors will leave their board at the water’s edge and run up the beach with paddle in hand to the finish through the gantry. We will have several “handlers” at the shoreline who will collect your board and clear it out of the competition area.
Top 3 competitors/teams will receive a certificate. You will be able to check your time on our website by about 2pm on race day. Certificates of completion with your time are available on request.
Age restriction is 14 years and over as at race day.
To comply with New Zealand Maritime Standards and health and safety regulations, each competitor will be required to wear a pfd belt or life vest, a high viz shirt/top (which is included in your entry fee and supplied with entry packs) and a foot leash attached to your board.
Surf Life Saving members will be patrolling the course during the event in Inflatable Rescue Boats and on rescue boards. While every effort will be made to ensure a safe and fun event, it is important that all SUP paddlers are confident swimmers and have a reasonable level of fitness.
