Hawke’s Bay Regional Council 1km Classic
A great stepping stone toward the longer swim if that’s your goal, or just rejoice in the achievement of swimming 1km in the ocean.
This event is designed to cater for those swimmers who want to participate in ocean swimming and are reasonably competent swimmers, but feel they are not fit or confident enough to do the full 2.5km course.
Competitors will leave the beach and swim out to sea for 200m before turning right around a marker buoy. They will swim clockwise around marker buoys before heading back to the start/finish area.
The top 3 competitors will receive a certificate. There are no prizes for age categories but you’ll be able to check out your times on the website. Certificates of completion with your time are available on request.
Determined by your age as at race day.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand will be patrolling the course in IRBs and on rescue boards. Swimmers should be able to confidently swim the distance entered.
Race start time
Compulsory pre-race briefing at 9.30 am. Race starts at 9.40 am.
